SMALL ENTERPRISE TECHNOLOGY AND UPGRADING PROGRAM (SET-UP)

   SET-UP is a nationwide program designed to upgrade productivity of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through technology application and upgrading.

   DOST 7 has assisted the following industry sectors under SET-UP: Furniture and Home Furnishing; Fashion Accessories, Gifts, Toys & Housewares; Metals and Engineering; and Food Processing.

  The furniture industry is one of the sectors covered under SET-UP. DOST 7 has accomplished the following in 2002:

- provided 14 technology interventions to 38 furniture firms in the region through trainings, productivity study under MPEX, technical assistance and S & T services; these firms employed 38 more workers

- installed and operated a common service woodworking equipment, a Router and Band Saw, at the woodworking facility at MODS S.A. Phils (MODS), a furniture exporting company in Canamocan, Compostela, Cebu; the facility has assisted two (2) subcontracting firms that employed a total of 50 workers
