Fashion Accesories and GTH

     DOST 7 assisted a total of 26 fashion accessories and GTH firms in Central Visayas through technology trainings, productivity study, technical & financial assistance in the design of molds, and S & T services. Other accomplishments inlcude the following:

- provided eight (8) technology interventions to the fashion accessories and GTH sector, which in turn, generated employment to 17 more workers

- developed an e-brochure in CD format for the product promotions of Fashion Accesories Manufacturers and Exporters (FAME)

     Under the SET-UP, DOST 7 assisted two (2) food processing companies in improving their productivity.

Bucarez Food Processing Corporation (Bucarez)

     Situated in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Bucarez is a manufacturer of Peanut Kisses: a small, symmetrically shaped peanut cookie made from peanuts, egg whites, refined sugar and vanilla.

     The DOST 7 interventions for 2002 yielded the following results:

- provided three (3) technology interventions that dealt with packaging, good manufacturing practices and product improvement which were instrumental in improving the productivity of the firm

- set up a P3-million processing plant

- a 60% increase in production volume from 51, 840 kgs. in 2001 to 86, 400 kgs. in 2002

-an increase in sales from P10 million in 2001 to about P17 million in 2002  

- accumulated savings of P300,000 as a result of the use of recommended packaging materials

     SPFTC is engaged in the processing of tropical fruits into dried mango, mango chips, mango puree, calamansi juice, to name a few. It is based in Inayagan, Naga, Cebu.

     With DOST 7's assistance in 2002, the following results were achieved:

- provided four (4) technology interventions, which included technical trainings of fruit processing, product development, technology business incubation, productivity study and consultancy and advisory services

- the interventions intensified the firm's production level: the monthly production volume of dried mango rose by 30 % from 1, 050 kgs. prior to the intervention to 1, 360 kgs. following intervention of dried mango; montly sales also increased from P409,500 (2001)to P5033,200 (2002)

- generated additional employment of 10 persons on top of the firm's 20 workers
